United Airlines forces Google Glass wearing passenger to remove her specs

If the name Cecilia Abadie rings a bell, that’s because she was in the news last year. Abadie had received a ticket from a police officer for wearing Google Glass while driving. She was driving at 85mph in a 65mph zone. Well, she is back in the news.

glass planeIn her previous case, the judge threw out both charges, saying that there was no proof that Google Glass was in operation when she was pulled over. And the prosecution failed to provide expert testimony showing that the cop’s speedometer had been certified also.

Abadie found herself in another Glass related incident when she was asked politely by a UAL flight attendant to remove her Google Glass while she was a passenger on a flight. This is due to UAL’s policy against taking pictures or video while in a plane, except for “personal events”. Dumb rule, but rules is rules.

She proved a point though, by taking her connected Glass off and then snapping a picture using her smartphone, which she immediately showed the flight attendant. The flight attendant didn’t ask Abadie to put her smartphone away however, so I guess the point is that Google Glass still has a bad reputation. I wonder what kinds of Glass related incidents people will get into next? It is interesting that it is this same woman in the news however.
